Manicure of the Day: Mint Green & Rose Gold

Today's manicure of the day is a combination of Revlon Minted and Sephora by OPI Traffic Stopper Copper.

3 Coats Minted + 1 Coat Traffic Stopper Copper, Natural Light

Every once in a while I feel like my plain nail polish colors are getting a little boring, and that is when I know I need some glitter in my life. Mint green and rose gold are both huge trends right now, so I decided to combine the two for a fun summery manicure.

3 Coats Minted + 1 Coat Traffic Stopper Copper, Sunlight

Minted is, as the name suggests, a mint green. This polish has a true green undertone, whereas some other mint polishes in my collection lean a little bit more blue-green. The formula is pretty good, considering that mint polishes are notoriously hard to apply. It is somewhat thin and streaky, and requires 3 coats for full opacity. But it is still relatively easy to apply, and the streaks even themselves out by the third coat without any extra effort.

Traffic Stopper Copper has a clear base with small and large hexagonal rose gold glitter. The glitter is less dense than I would usually prefer, but I think it works nicely for this look, since I wanted the mint to show through a lot. However, it is very difficult to get this polish opaque on its own. I like adding glitter accent nails to spice up a manicure, and they typically take 3 or 4 coats to reach opacity on their own. So to test it out, I tried building Traffic Stopper Copper up on a nail wheel. After 5 coats the glitter coverage was pretty good, but there were still some bald spots peaking through. At that point I decided not to add another coat because the clear base was so thick that it was distorting the shape of the nail. Other than that, the formula is nice. As with most large glitter polishes, you have to work with it a little bit to get the glitter spaced out evenly, but this was definitely easier to work with than some glitters.

I already loved both of these polishes separately, and together I think they create a very fun, trendy look for this summer. Revlon nail polishes retail for around $5 at drugstores. Sephora by OPI polishes are exclusive to Sephora (and the Sephora website), and they retail for $9.50 each.

What is your favorite trendy nail polish color at the moment?
